Non-Department Funding Opportunities

Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program

An annual matching grant program through USDA, in which the Department explores expanded market opportunities for New York State food and agricultural products. The Division typically administers these funds and supervises implementation of the project by a private sector or local government cooperator. The Division will seek additional FSMIP grants to fund agricultural development and marketing projects in the coming year.

Market Access Program

The Food Export USA-Northeast Department also assisted food companies in securing federal Market Access Program funds through Food Export USA-Northeast for their individual branded product market development and promotion activities. Last year, 40 New York companies received allocations totaling over $1.3 million. This constitutes over one-third of the total branded allocation received from the federal government for use by the ten member states of Food Export USA-Northeast.

NYSERDA’s Innovation in Agriculture Grants
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) periodically provides funding for agriculture innovation projects involving energy conservation or productivity improvement, which enhance the profitability of agriculture in New York State. NYSERDA may fund up to 50 percent of the total project cost. For more information and an application, go to www.nyserda.com/rddopps.html .

SARE Farmer/Grower Grant Program

The Northeast Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program (SARE) encourages farmers in the northeast who want to explore innovative sustainable practices on their farms to apply for this grant. The Farmer/Grower Grant program allows farmers and growers to conduct experiments, try new approaches, and test emerging ideas about agricultural sustainability. The emphasis is on new ideas that advance good stewardship, improve farm profitability, and strengthen rural communities.
