IP Day activities

World Intellectual Property Day " April 26 " offers an ideal opportunity to promote, inform and teach the importance of intellectual property as a tool for economic, social and cultural development. The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2004 will be "Encouraging Creativity." WIPO urges its Member States to participate in the event and organize activities on a national level.

WIPO has produced a variety of promotional material to assist with outreach activities for World Intellectual Property Day. Three new posters, along with a CD containing print-ready versions of the posters in the 6 official languages of the United Nations, were sent to all WIPO Member States at the end of 2003. The Organization has also released three 30-second television spots centered on this year's theme. The three spots will air on CNN over the next year and are available for broadcast to all Member States.

WIPO is also sending a World Intellectual Property Day information kit to Member States, which includes:

• a message from WIPO Director General Kamil Idris

• a leaflet (Adobe PDF) and order form (Adobe PDF) for the "Creative Planet" video series

• a World Intellectual Property Day poster and bookmarks

• two new guides for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), "Making a Mark" (Adobe PDF) and "Looking Good" (Adobe PDF).

WIPO invites its Member States and all the organizations receiving its outreach material to inform the Organization of any activities planned at the national level.  The broad participation and support received during the previous observations of World Intellectual Property Day has helped make the event a success worldwide.
