For the Bible Tells me So - Free Film ShowingFor the Bible Tells Me So Flyer

The CFANS Diversity Programs Office, CFANS Student Board, and GLBT Programs Office invite you to a FREE screening of the film "For the Bible Tells Me So." This event will take place on Thursday, December 4, at 7:00 pm in the theater of the St. Paul Student Center. This event is free and open to the public; snacks will be provided. Guests are invited to stay for a panel discussion following the film. The panel will speak about issues faced by GLBT members of faith communities.

 

CFANS Horticulture Course visits the Dream of Wild Health Farm

During the fall 2008 semester, Professor Bud Markhart took the students to the Dream of Wild Health Farm, a farm dedicated to the preservation of indigenous Minnesota seeds, in Hugo, Minnesota. Visit the Department of Horticulture Science website to read about their class trip.

 

New Freshman Seminar: American Indian Ways of Knowing the Environment, CFANS 1902

Students will examine the historical, contemporary, and often adversarial relationship between Native American worldviews of the environment and traditional western views of earth sciences. Students will understand the social constructs that legitimizes and promotes one set of scientific protocols and beliefs over another.

The seminar will focus on American Indian ways of knowing the environment through discussion, guest speakers, site visits near the U of M campus, lectures, and community service learning experiences. Please contact Mark Bellcourt with questions.

CFANS and Extension Services Faculty and Staff Visit Red Lake Nation Reservation

Over 50 faculty and staff members of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and Extension Services at the University of Minnesota participated in a bust tour to the Red Lake Nation Reservation on August 19 and 20, 2008. Red Lake is one of two closed Native American reservations in the country and has full sovereignty over their land. Participants on the bus tour had the opportunity to interact with Tribal community members as well as explore the possibility of ongoing collaborative efforts between the Red Lake community and the University of Minnesota. Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Small Grants Program

As a staff or faculty member of the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), you can apply for up to $1,000.00 to further your learning in the areas of diversity, multiculturalism, equity, and social justice. These funds will be available on an annual basis. The Office of Diversity Programs (190G Coffey Hall) will accept applications on a rolling basis for this fiscal year.
