The focus of the National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) is shifting
from producing static printed soil survey reports to providing a dynamic
resource of soils information for a wide range of needs. The National
Soil Information System (NASIS) is the core component of this vision and
is designed to manage and maintain soil data from collection to
dissemination. NASIS supports this conceptual shift in three important
areas:
- Collection of new information in compliance with standards. The
PEDON Description Program is provided with NASIS to aid in data
collection.
- Application of expert knowledge to make information usable for a
variety of purposes.
- Dissemination of information to a wide variety of users.
As a prospective user of NASIS, there’s much you’ll want to know
about this system. By familiarizing yourself with the new concepts
supported by NASIS, you’ll be able to use the system to its fullest
potential, and maximize your productivity. Here are some resources
available in this web site:
The new Citrix interface is now available. It requires a browser plug-in
(click here for info) and an
eAuthentication login (click here for
info). Also see: Using NASIS with Citrix.
