About this Site

Welcome to the new NC State Web site. This site was launched in August 2007 following an extensive process involving various units throughout the university. This site is maintained and managed by the Office of Public Affairs, with feedback and support from the university's information technology units.

The current site design represents a major overhaul. For a history of the project, please visit www.ncsu.edu/redesign or follow the project's progress at a blog that has chronicled it.

Chancellor James Oblinger appointed a university-wide committee in March 2006 to lead this project. The committee has been instrumental in leading the process, working closely with the Office of Public Affairs and Ripple Effects Interactive. A newly-established Web Communications unit within Public Affairs will oversee the day-to-day activity of the new site and its continual evolvement.

Primary goals of the site re-design were:

  • Capturing the character and brand of NC State University, sharing some of the unique and engaging stories that occur on our campus on a daily basis.
  • Improving the site structure and creating a user-centric navigation, making external audiences - primarily prospective students - a priority as these users typically have the hardest time finding the content and information they need.
  • Enhancing the overall experience by improving the visual design and creating content and new pages that guide users in a relevant way.
  • Empowering ownership of content and building a sense of community and collaboration.

The last time www.ncsu.edu was redesigned was July 2002. Various projects, committees and organizational units at NC State talked about, met, and sometimes even worked on redesigns as far back as 1995.
