A new Web site tells the story of how UC is leading the way forward for all Californians - improving the quality of life through countless contributions to agriculture, science, health, technology, arts and culture, public safety and the environment.
"Spending on higher education is really an investment for California, and that these dollars really have a huge return for our economy."
-- Michele Siqueiros, executive director, Campaign for College Opportunity
The UC, California State University and the state’s community college systems have not yet recovered from cuts that stemmed from the dot-com crash. Higher education would suffer a second major blow in six years if the state adopts the cuts proposed in this year’s budget, a Campaign for College Opportunity study says.
It’s not just university leaders who are expressing concerns about the proposed budget cuts. More than 2,000 students participated April 21 in a statewide “Day of Action” to build support for investing in higher education. The coalition that organized that event, Students for California’s Future, held another event May 19.
