Vegetable IPM Resource for the Midwest Welcome! The primary purpose of this site is to provide timely information about all aspects of vegetable crop integrated pest management (IPM), with particular focus to the Midwest U.S. region. This information is provided as an aid to assist growers, processors and crop consultants in making IPM decisions. VegEdge is maintained by Bill Hutchison and Suzanne Wold-Burkness, Department of Entomology, University of Minnesota. Our emphasis is the timely delivery of pest & beneficial profiles and pest infestation updates, as well as Pest-Forecast Maps (e.g., for European corn borer). For example, we provide a link to the MN-WI ECB Model forecast which are automatically updated daily, and Moth Flight graphs, updated throughout the summer months. VegEdge also provides numerous updates about research and extension programs underway at the University of Minnesota. Vegetable IPM research is conducted by several researchers and Extension Specialists, in several departments, and experiment stations including: Entomology, Plant Pathology, Horticulture Science, Agronomy & Plant Genetics and the Southern Research and Education Center-Waseca. Research and extension emphases include: plant resistance, impact of transgenic crops (potato, sweet corn), biological control, microbial control, aphids as vectors of potato viruses, insect migration, chemical control, and pesticide resistance management. |
