The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General, Richard L. Skinner, announced today that Matthew Jadacki will join his office to establish an Office for Hurricane Katrina Oversight. The office will focus on preventing problems through a proactive program of internal control reviews and contract audits to ensure disaster assistance funds are being spent wisely.
Mr. Jadacki joins the DHS Office of Inspector General on a detail assignment from the National Weather Service. The Office for Hurricane Katrina Oversight will maintain a visible presence primarily in the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
Mr. Jadacki will be responsible for overseeing the management and expenditure of all contracts, grants and governmental operations related to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Mr. Jadacki also will be responsible for coordinating the audit activities of other federal Inspector Generals who have an oversight responsibility for the funds transferred to their respective departments and agencies by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist in the disaster relief efforts.
Prior to joining the National Weather Service, Mr. Jadacki was the Acting Chief Financial Officer for FEMA, responsible for managing all financial management and budget activities, including overseeing the agency’s $12 billion budget. Mr. Jadacki joined FEMA in 1991, as an audit manager in the agency’s Office of Inspector General where he served until April 2000.
