| WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced over $2 million in federal funding for the Mississippi County Arkansas Economic Opportunity Commission. The money will be used to support 18 local Head Start programs across Mississippi County.
"The instruction and care children receive in Head Start programs is essential to preparing them for future success in the classroom," said Lincoln. "These federal dollars will help to educate our youth in Mississippi County and ensure a brighter future for our children, our state, and our country."
“Over 11,000 children throughout Arkansas benefit from Head Start programs,” said Pryor. “This grant will ensure Mississippi County students receive these high-quality services and acquire critical early learning development skills that are a proven indicator of future academic success.”
"These Head Start programs focus on preparing at-risk children for school through education, social development and health care services," said Berry. "Children are our most precious resource and by helping them succeed in school, we are helping them succeed in life. Anything we can do to help our children thrive is a worthwhile investment."
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
