Rogers Announces $418,238 in Grants for
 Talladega County Fire Departments
Grants should help fund new firefighting vehicles and equipment

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated the men and women of the Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Stemley Volunteer Fire Department, Coleta Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Childersburg Fire and Rescue Department today for receiving $418,238 in grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, money Rogers said would help the Talladega County fire departments purchase new firefighting vehicles and have the safety equipment they needed.

“Talladega County’s first responders are our first line of defense,” Rogers said. “I congratulate the men and women of these fire departments for receiving these grants, and hope they will ultimately help increase the safety for all local citizens.”

Rogers said the Stemley Volunteer Fire Department should receive $184,775 and Coleta Valley Volunteer Fire Department should receive $177,175 both grants to help purchase new firefighting vehicles.  The Lincoln Fire and Rescue should receive $23,750 and Childersburg Fire and Rescue Department should receive $32,538 both for safety and operations equipment. The grant should be awarded under the 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, an essential Federal program which supports first responders across Alabama and the nation funding equipment, health and safety programs, emergency medical services programs, and fire education and prevention programs.

Rogers is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Management, Integration and Oversight on the Committee on Homeland Security in Congress. “I am pleased to see the Federal government is continuing to make these types of investments in the Third District,” he added.
