Rogers Announces High Tech Equipment for Talladega County
Local law enforcement to receive rescue and video devices

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  Talladega County law enforcement officials should soon have new cutting-edge devices to help fight fires and better protect local citizens, Congressman Mike Rogers said today.

Rogers said three devices, all of which help law enforcement personnel in emergency situations, would be awarded.  The first, known as an AMKUS (gasoline powered), will assist local first responders in cutting into automobiles and other vehicles in emergency situations.  The equipment is worth $17,167.

Secondly, is the GASALERT MICRO5PID, which should help enable the detection of chemical, biological or radiological contamination. The device is worth $7,500.  Thirdly, is the Video Detective, which will help transform blurry video into sharp images. The equipment is worth $31,100.

“These high tech tools should be helpful to local fire and rescue teams,” Rogers said. “I am delighted the Federal government has chosen to make these investments locally, and hope these devices will help support the ongoing efforts of Talladega County law enforcement.”

Rogers said the departments awarded include: Lay Lake Volunteer Fire Department, which will receive the AMKUS; Childersburg Fire and Rescue, which will receive the GASALERT MICRO5PID Detection Equipment; and the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department, which was awarded the Video Detective.

Rogers is Ranking Member of the Homeland Security subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight. Funding for the program is administered by DHS’s Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP).
