Washington, D.C. - Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated local law enforcement officials in Roanoke today for receiving matching federal funds to help purchase new bullet-resistant vests.
The grants, which are administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) at the U.S. Department of Justice, will help pay for 24 new vests.
“Our local law enforcement officials deserve the best possible equipment to help protect the citizens of Randolph County,” Rogers said. “These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to help keep us safe, and I am pleased the Federal government is continuing to make these types of local investments.”
Rogers said the grants, which are applied for by local law enforcement agencies, were awarded through the Fiscal Year 2006 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, and are intended to help support efforts to increase the safety of local law enforcement.
Rogers serves on the Homeland Security Committee in Congress, and is Chairman of the subcommittee on Management, Integration, and Oversight.
