Titanium manufacturing plant coming to
Laurens County; Will hire 320 people in
new facility near Wal-Mart Distribution

Gov. Mark Sanford and Thomas Sax, CEO of American Titanium Works, announced that ATW will build a, world-class titanium mini-mill in Laurens County. American Titanium Works LLC, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, will invest an estimated $422 million and plans to employ 320 people at its new facility to be located near the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

"Thanks to Gov. Sanford's strong leadership and the work of the Department of Commerce, Duke Energy and local officials, ATW is pleased to select South Carolina for its titanium manufacturing facility and Tech Center. The attentiveness and assistance from government and local businesses, including Sen. Graham, Sen. DeMint and Congressman Barrett, helped us conclude that South Carolina was not only a good choice, but the best choice for our business.

Laurens County Hall of Heroes
gets 20 new members

Laurens County Veterans were honored during the fourth annual Laurens County Hall of Heroes Tuesday night at Laurens District 55 High School.

"Our main objective is to honor veterans both past and present," said Carey Bolt, veteran's affairs officer for Laurens County and emcee of the event. "There are heroes in our community that we pass every day. We have no idea what they have done for this country."

Featured guests on the evening included U.S. Congressman Gresham Barrett and local elected officials Sen. Danny Verdin, Rep. Mark Willis, Rep. Jeff Duncan and Rep. Mike Pitts.
