In late 1996, the United States Congress passed landmark legislation creating the independent, nonprofit National Film Preservation Foundation, a public-private partnership to benefit the film preservation efforts of American film archives, historical societies and similar institutions. The National Film Preservation Board does not possess rights to any of the NFR titles and thus we cannot sell video copies to the public. Most, though not all, of the Registry titles are available at the usual retail outlets.
