David Gewanter's book In the Belly (University of Chicago Press, 1997), won Ploughshares' John Zacharis First Book Award. His latest book, The Sleep of Reason (University of Chicago Press, 2003) was a finalist for the James Laughlin Prize. He is co-editor, with Frank Bidart, of Robert Lowell: Collected Poems (FSG, 2003). The recipient of a Witter Bynner fellowship and Whiting Writer's Award, he teaches at Georgetown University.
