Preparing is caring, Are you Register Ready?

In preparation for any potential emergency event, Stafford Township in partnership with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, have created “Register Ready - New Jersey's Special Needs Registry for Disasters,” a free, voluntary and confidential web-based program designed to assist people with special needs who may find it difficult to get to safety in the event of an emergency.

People with special needs (or caregivers on their behalf) are encouraged to register electronically, if possible, by accessing NJ Register Ready Alternatively, they can call New Jersey’s toll-free 2-1-1 telephone service. This service will register people, offer free translation, and provide TTY services for the hearing-impaired. Paper registration forms are also available.

Nearly 6800 persons have registered to date.

Emergency management officials often view special needs registry development and maintenance from varying perspectives, ranging from concerns about the need for expectations management to an increased sense of confidence about being able to track individuals in their communities who require specific assistance during adverse conditions.

Responsible Use of Fertilizers and Planting of Local Indigenous Plants:

As part of the ongoing effort of our Stafford Township Environmental Commission to encourage responsible environmental practices, Councilman John Spodofora has identified two websites that provide some valuable information to property owners concerning the responsible use of fertilizers and the use of local indigenous plants that will grow well in our area. We like to pass this information along to our residents from time to time so that they will know that there are alternative methods available that do not require large mass amounts of fertilization that serve to degrade the environment, especially our local waterways. Part of the problems we are encountering in Manahawkin Lake for example relative to the ever increasing presence of algae blooms can be traced directly back to the use of fertilizers on residential lawns in the area. Please take a few minutes to check out the following websites and, as always, if you have specific questions, please contact our Township offices.

Stafford Township “Reverse 9-1-1” Notification System

The Township has installed a new notification system that will be used to notify the public of both emergencies AND non-emergent events. The system has been set up to notify residents through land line phone numbers through a data base the township has acquired. Unfortunately, there is no federal or state governmental requirement for the establishment of a central data base for cellular numbers that can be acquired. For that reason, if you would like your cellular number added to the notification system, you will need to fill out the form below and submit it to the township at the address shown as soon as possible. Please make sure you include ALL of the information requested below including your address. If we do not have a valid address, we can not insert the numbers in the system to be accessed. Once we receive this information, we will add it to our data base and you will be notified of future events on both your land line phone and your cellular phone. If at any time you would like to have any numbers removed from the system, please notify us in writing and we will take that action immediately. Click on the link below to view the form Click Here

Landfill Closure and Business Park Redevelopment Project

As a public service to our residents and other interested parties, we have set up a separate section on our web site for information related to the township's landfill closure and business park redevelopment project which has been in the news lately. In an effort to clear up much of the misinformation that has been circulated concerning this project, we have formulated 2 "Fact Sheets" about the project and posted that information on our web site. The first Fact Sheet relates to the overall project and the second Fact Sheet relates to the Limited Tax Abatement Program that applies to a portion of the project. If you have any questions concerning this matter please feel free to contact our Township Administrator, Paul Shives,E-Mail OR by calling 609-597-1000 ext 8559 or ext 8515.
