9/19/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Nearly $7 Million for Stamford Urban Transitway

Washington— Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced that the city of Stamford will receive $6,912,715 million in federal funding to assist with construction of the Stamford Urban Transitway.


"Clogged traffic arteries in Stamford do more than frustrate commuters - they hurt its economic health and well-being," said Dodd. "Thankfully this assistance continues the critically important strides the city has made to alleviate traffic congestion and gives a 'green light' to new economic growth and vitality."

9/08/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More than $275K in School Safety Measures

Washington – Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced that four cities and towns in Connecticut will receive help from the federal government to assist local law enforcement agencies with school safety measures. The grants, totaling $278,028 and distributed to the towns of Clinton and Granby and the cities of Hartford and Stamford, are disbursed by the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing (COPS).

WASHINGTON – The Senate today approved the 2007 Defense Appropriations Bill, providing substantial support to Connecticut’s defense industry, particularly in the areas of submarine research and technology. In part due to the efforts of Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT), the bill will help boost the Connecticut economy and ensure that U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are outfitted with the quality resources they need to perform their missions.


7/21/06: Dodd, Lieberman Secure More Than $18 Million for State Transportation, Urban Development Projects

Washington – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) successfully secured more than $18 million for Connecticut's transportation and urban development needs, they announced today.  These resources, which were included in the Senate's Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, will go towards initiatives across the state aimed at reducing traffic congestion, promoting alternative modes of transportation, increasing transportation safety, increasing homeownership, fighting urban blight, and supporting youth development. The bill was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this week.


5/24/06: Senator Dodd Welcomes National Geographic Bee Connecticut State Champion

Senator Dodd today met with Liam McCarthy, a 13-year-old 8th grader at Middlesex Middle School in Darien, who won the Connecticut State National Geographic Geography Bee. Liam also represented Connecticut at the 2005 National Geographic Bee.


5/12/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce $2 Million for CT Brownfields Clean-up

WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded ten grants to Connecticut communities and regional councils worth a total of $2 million to help them assess, clean and redevelop abandoned, contaminated parcels known as Brownfields. These grants will benefit the cities of Bridgeport, East Hampton, Meriden, Shelton and the town of Sprague, as well as the North Star Center for Human Development in Hartford, the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency in Norwalk, and the Regional Growth Partnership in South Central, Connecticut.

Senator Dodd today met with a group of students visiting Washington DC from Greenwich Academy. The Senator explained the historical significance of the Russel Caucus Room in which they were meeting, and answered questions from the students.


5/09/06: Senator Dodd Meets with Connecticut's Prudential Spirit of Community Awardees

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is the nation’s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The awards were created in 1995 in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor middle and high school students at the local, state and national level for outstanding service to others.

Elizabeth America of Guilford is founder and president of a school club that raises awareness and funds to assist needy people in her community and in third-world countries. Her club has sponsored fund-raisers for poor people in Haiti, tsunami victims, a local food bank, and UNICEF.


Jack Applebaum of Greenwich is a founding member of his school’s “Building with Books” affiliate. “Building with Books” is a national organization that raises money to build schools in developing countries. During its first year, the chapter raised $4,000 to help build a school in Mali.

Stamford, CT—At Stamford Hospital today, Senator Chris Dodd unveiled details of bipartisan legislation he will introduce to educate parents and health care providers about newborn screening, improve follow-up care for infants with an illness detected through newborn screening, and help states expand and improve their newborn screening programs.
