10/20/08: Dodd Announces Major Investment in Norden Systems

October 20, 2008

Senator Chris Dodd visited Norden Systems in Norwalk on Monday to announce new funding that will allow this defense contractor to continue building critical radar equipment for the U.S. Military. Dodd made the announcement in a meeting with company employees and also toured the plant.

10/02/08: Dodd Announces Tax Credit for Connecticut Fuel Cell Manufacturers

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today announced Senate passage of legislation that includes an eight-year extension of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) that will greatly benefit Connecticut fuel cell manufacturers.  The long-term extension, which was approved by the Senate last night as part of a comprehensive package of tax extensions, will provide these Connecticut companies with the financial security they need to make long range plans, increase their investments, and add even more well-paying jobs.   


10/02/08: Dodd Applauds NASA's Decision to Reopen Space Suit Competition

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement on NASA’s decision to re-open the competition for the new Constellation Space Suit System:

 

“This is great news for Connecticut and its workers, but more importantly, this is the right decision by NASA,” said Dodd.  “The workers of Hamilton Sundstrand know space-suits better than anyone else and they deserve a fair shot at this contract.  I’m confident that Hamilton Sundstrand can win this competition and will continue to build the suits worn by our country’s astronauts, just as they have for the last 40 years.”

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, today released the following statement after the Senate passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act:

 

“The legislation that the Senate passed tonight is the product of thoughtful and deliberate bipartisan cooperation, and is a vast improvement over the blank check that the Administration sought just days ago.  The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act will not only provide stability and confidence to our financial markets, but also will help American families who are struggling to make ends meet.  The legislation gives the Treasury Secretary the authority to respond quickly and forcibly to the current crisis, while creating strong protections for American taxpayers, helping to preserve the American dream of homeownership, and cracking down on excessive compensation for corporate executives who made bad decisions.

9/27/08: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Major Federal Funding for Connecticut

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced they secured more than $19.2 billion for the Connecticut defense industry and $106 million for military construction projects in the state.  The funding, which was approved by the Senate today as part of the Defense and the Military Construction/Veterans Affairs Appropriations Acts, will boost Connecticut’s economy and help ensure that soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen - active duty, national guard, and reserve forces, have the resources and support they need to successfully perform their missions. 


9/20/07: Statement of Senator Dodd on the House Education and Labor Committee Passage of the RESPECT Act

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) commented today in reaction to the House Education and Labor Committee Passage of the Re-empowerment of Skilled and Professional Employees and Construction Tradeworkers (RESPECT) Act.  Dodd, along with Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA), introduced the RESPECT Act in May. The bill would amend the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) to modify the definition of supervisor in order to ensure that no employee is unjustly denied his or her right to join a labor union.  


8/01/07: Dodd, Shelby Laud Committee Approval of Legislation to Protect U.S. Jobs, Combat China Currency Manipulation

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, along with ranking Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) today announced that the Committee passed S. 1677, the Currency Reform and Financial Markets Act of 2007.  The legislation, which was introduced by Dodd and Shelby on June 21, is intended to level the playing field for American workers and businesses.
