If you’re in the market for a passport, the best advice that we can give you is to apply early! We recommend that you apply for a passport 8-10 weeks prior to your departure date. If the country you’re traveling to also requires that you have a visa, you should apply for a passport even earlier to allow adequate time for the visa application process, which varies by country and can take anywhere from 1 week to 45 days or longer.
If you have emergency travel plans that do not allow for the standard processing time, the Department of State Officer Expedited Processing for a fee. You must still allow a minimum of three weeks processing time for expedited passport service.
