Hoyer Statement on President's Veto Threat on Ledbetter Fair Pay Legislation

WASHINGTON - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding the President's threat to veto the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act:

"President Bush's veto threat against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is just further evidence that this President does not stand on the side of America's workers.

"Protecting Americans from discrimination in the work place is a clear and simple extension of the principles of fairness and equality that have made our nation the greatest on earth.  The Supreme Court's cramped reasoning in the Ledbetter case defied common sense and ignored those key American values.

"Democrats will proceed with consideration of this important legislation that deserves bipartisan support and to be quickly signed into law."
