(Washington D.C.)- Congressman Jim Walsh was today honored with a 2008 Distinguished Public Service Award by the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF). Walsh was recognized for his leadership and continued support of the dystonia community.
The DMRF is registered nonprofit education and research organization which seeks to inform and assist people affected by dystonia. Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. There are approximately 13 forms of dystonia, and dozens of diseases and conditions include dystonia as a symptom. Since their founding in 1976, DMRF has been working with patients, families, physicians, investigators, regulators, and others to broaden understanding about dystonia and encourage promising research.
