Inglis sees energy change, commitment in oil tycoon’s investment in GE wind turbines

(May 15, 2008)

U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC), Ranking Member on the U.S. House Energy & Environment Subcommittee on Science, hailed Oklahoma oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens’ announcement that his Mesa Power LLC has ordered 667 wind turbines from General Electric.

The reported world’s largest turbine order for a single-site wind power development will contribute to the first phase of a $2 billion Texas wind farm, using the 667 turbines to generate approximately 1,000 megawatts of electricity to power more than 300,000 average American homes.

“When an oil industry leader like T. Boone Pickens places a $2 billion order for wind turbines assembled in Greenville, this is great news in many ways,” said Bob Inglis (R-SC).

“First, as an investment fire starter, Mr. Pickens' move means others will follow. Second, this shows that when we pursue our energy security with innovation and commitment, the pain at the pump gives way to new energy, new South Carolina jobs and America wins."
