Whitfield Announces $888,100 In Federal Funds For Dawson Springs February 17, 2006 Washington, Feb 17 - Congressman Ed Whitfield announced Friday that the City of Dawson Springs will receive a $355,100 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The funds will be used to replace approximately 4,110 feet of deteriorating clay sewer pipes, manhole repairs, and some spot repair to the collection system, providing sanitary waste disposal for 930 existing sewer users.

I am pleased Hopkins County has been awarded these much needed funds, said Whitfield. This grant will free up money and allow the City to fund other projects that might have otherwise suffered. I will continue working to help provide assistance to Hopkins County.

In addition to the grant, the City will also be eligible for a $533,000 low-interest loan to complete the improvements.

The grant and loan are provided through USDAs Rural Development program. This program is committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. It supports such essential public facilities and services as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service.
