Fort Campbell Student Admitted to West Point Jan 11, 2006 U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield announced Wednesday that Philip S. Bolger of Fort Campbell has received a fully qualified offer of admission to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Philip is the son of General and Mrs. Dan Bolger of Fort Campbell and is a Senior at Fort Campbell High School, where he maintains a 3.6 grade point average. In addition to his outstanding academic record, Matthew is a member of the cross-country team and a leader in the JROTC. Furthermore, Philip is active in his Church and held an officer position in the engineering club while his father was stationed in South Korea.

Philip is an exceptional young man, Whitfield said. He is a star student, and he possesses the dedication and commitment needed to survive the rigors of academy life. I am honored that Philip will represent the First District of Kentucky during his four years at West Point and throughout his career in the Army.

Any student wishing to attend a military service academy must be a United States citizen, unmarried, and at least 17 years of age at the time of admission. Students must first receive a nomination from either a congressional or military-related source. Congressman Whitfield nominated Philip for admission last November, and he will begin his military and academic training this summer.
