Immigration - Secure America through Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act - H.R. 4088

Background:

  • H.R. 4088 is similar to a border enforcement bill (H.R. 4437) that Inglis supported and which was approved by the House in the 109th Congress.

Summary:

  • Increases the number of Border Patrol agents on the ground by 2,500 in 2008 and 5,500 from 2009-2012.
  • Outlines new recruiting provisions for former members of the armed services.
  • Creates a pilot program to increase unmanned aerial surveillance at the border.
  • Weakens the job magnet by requiring employers to use the improved E-Verify program to validate employee eligibility.
  • Increases the number of ICE agents employed by the Department of Homeland Security.

Inglis position:

One thing that most Americans can agree on is that we need to control our borders. We need to stop the free flow of illegal immigrants into our country. That’s why I’ve signed on to the Secure America through Verification and Enforcement Act of 2007 (H.R. 4088). Securing our borders is the first step toward solving the immigration dilemma. We need comprehensive immigration reform, and if we pull together, we can get there.
