“The American auto industry is facing unprecedented challenges; and millions of jobs, many here in Wisconsin, hang in the balance. In these critical economic times, I support legislation that would give the auto industry access to a portion of the already-approved economic rescue package to provide much-needed liquidity. While automakers can take advantage of loans available to retool and build more auto-efficient vehicles, this valuable infusion of capital will ensure continued operation in the short-term. Without a significant change in the Republican leadership’s position, however, I fear that this legislation will not pass both Houses of Congress this session.”
