MILLER ANNOUNCES ACADEMY DAYS

Okaloosa Walton Community College (September 13, 2007) - MILLER ANNOUNCES ACADEMY DAYS

Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL-01) announced today he will be sponsoring the district’s Academy Days to provide prospective service academy applicants information on the nomination process.

“This is a great opportunity for students, parents and educators of the First District to find out what it takes to apply and possibly attend one of our nation’s service academies. I hope this event will serve as a catalyst to our future leaders to chase their dreams and serve their country” said Miller.

The Academy Days are open to any interested high school student, counselor or educator with a presentation from representatives of the five academies. Breakout sessions will discuss the specific requirements of high school students followed by individual and small group consultation on the admissions procedures and processes for their respective institutions.

The event will be held on September 15th at 10:00 a.m. at Okaloosa Walton Community College located at 100 College Boulevard in Niceville, Florida.

Each year, dozens of aspiring students are nominated by the congressional office for appointments to each of the national service academies: The U.S. Air Force Academy, The U.S. Naval Academy, The U.S. Military Academy, The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and The U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Those that receive appointments earn a four-year scholarship worth approximately $100,000 followed by an exciting and rewarding career in the armed forces.

In addition, ROTC representatives will discuss scholarship opportunities available through the many college and university programs around the country. For further information, please call 850-479-1183.
