Republicans in the House passed a Bush administration proposal to loosen the rules that determine which employees are entitled to overtime pay that could cut paychecks for 8 million workers, possibly including police officers, nurses, store supervisors and many others. The Republican controlled Senate is scheduled to vote on this issue on January 20, 2004.

Washington D.C. - Today, the House of Representatives passed the FY 2004 Omnibus Appropriations bill, which included $100,000 for the Montefiore Medical Center's (MMC) Clinical Information System project. The Clinical Information System project is a state of the art electronic medical record system. The systems have dramatically reduced the risk of medical errors and have significantly improved patient care. The project’s objective is to now extend these capabilities to health care facilities throughout the Bronx and Westchester. But before this money can be made available, the Senate needs to pass identical legislation and the President needs to sign the bill – which could take up to several weeks.
