Congressman Clyburn Bringing House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt to Pee Dee
Congressmen to Focus on Needs of Rural Communities

(Washington, DC) -  On the first official day of Congress' summer recess, Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn will bring the House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt to visit the Pee Dee.  The two Congressmen will make stops in Marion and Williamsburg Counties on Monday, July 29th.

"I have been very focused on closing the quality of life gaps that exist in minority communities, especially in rural South Carolina," Congressman Clyburn said.  "By bringing the House Democratic Leader to the Pee Dee, the needs and expectations of this region will attract national attention."

The Congressional leaders first will participate in a discussion with economic development officials and business leaders about the high unemployment rates in the region.  The 4:30 p.m. meeting will take place at the Marion County Technical Education Center at 2797 East Highway 76 in Mullins.  Information gleaned from this visit will help shape the policy and agenda for the House Democratic Caucus on issues important to rural areas and economic development.

Congressman Gephardt will then get a first-hand look at the Pee Dee as he travels from Mullins to the Williamsburg County Town of Greeleyville. There he will participate in a free community event at the home of Attorney Ronnie Saab.   This will be an opportunity for area residents to share their concerns with the House Democratic Leader.
