(Washington, DC) - Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn announced Monday that Bamberg County School District Two would be receiving a one-year grant totaling $171,383 from the U.S. Department of Education to be used for literacy and improving the school's library resources.
Bamberg School District Two will use this federal funding to support a program in its elementary, middle and high schools aimed at meeting the state and local reading standards. New material will be selected based on curriculum developed by content area teachers and curriculum specialists at each grade level. The district will also increase access to the library and other school media through extended hours for teachers, students and the community.
"I am proud to be able to tell our students, teachers and parents of Bamberg School District Two that reading and literacy will continue to be our priorities when preparing these students for prosperous careers," Congressman Clyburn said. "A mastery of language and vocabulary is essential for any professional communication."
Bamberg School District Two currently serves 1,150 students.
