Washington, Jul 24 -

U.S. Representative Thelma Drake (R-VA) today voted against another bill that the Democrat Leadership is using as a distraction from the comprehensive energy solution that the people of the Second District and all over the nation are calling for. The bill considered today would reduce the best and most useful portions of our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in a manner which does not follow the recommendations of the Department of Energy. The bill would not require resources taken from the SPR to be replaced for 5 years.

“It is unfortunate that the Democrat Leadership continues to thwart the will of the vast majority of the American people and a majority of this House. The bill they offered today is a distraction that does not offer the comprehensive solution Second District families are demanding,” said Drake. “Yesterday, I was proud to stand with my colleagues as an original co-sponsor of the American Energy Act. The American Energy Act is a single piece of legislation that allows us to produce more American made energy, invest in alternative forms of energy like wind, solar, and nuclear, and encourages conservation measures. It is the comprehensive solution that a vast majority of Americans support to address our energy crisis and I call on the Democrat Leadership to bring the American Energy Act to the floor, where it will easily pass. Our families deserve the relief they are clamoring for, not the political posturing they are getting on a weekly basis.”
