| All gifts are important to Montana State, but the gifts that permit the most flexibility are those that are not restricted. Greatest needs or unrestricted gifts are valuable because they are the resources that Montana State needs to meet the ever-changing and often unexpected challenges of the future. |
| When your gift creates an endowment or is designated to an existing endowment, it is a legacy without end. Endowment funds are invested and maintained in perpetuity. A portion of the annual return, designated the spendable earnings, is used as you specify. The rest of the annual return is reinvested so the endowment principal maintains its value. Gifts not designated endowment are expended, as necessary, for the purposes specified by the donor. |
