Dreier Honored By League of California Cities

March 14, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC ‑ Congressman David Dreier (R‑San Dimas, CA), House Rules Committee Ranking Republican and Chairman of the California Republican Congressional Delegation, was honored today by the League of California Cities with their Special Recognition Award for his continued dedication to California cities. The President of the League, Maria Alegria, Mayor of Pinole, California, presented the award at their annual California Delegation Rountable event.

“It is an honor to work closely with the League of California Cities, especially our Mayors and city councils, to advance the federal priorities of our local leaders,” Dreier said.

The Bipartisan California Congressional Delegation hosted the annual roundtable eCDDAwardvent on the League’s major policy priority of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. California Members of Congress addressed the League on the importance of risk-based funding for Homeland Security grants, moving forward on the challenge of interoperable communications between various jurisdictions during emergencies, and local control and involvement in creating effective policies for responding to disasters. The League also heard from an expert panel including speakers from the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Grants and Training, and the House Committees on Homeland Security, and Transportation and Infrastructure.

“Our first responders in California face significant challenges both in keeping our communities safe from harm and in their preparedness to take on any natural disasters or potential terrorist attacks,” Dreier continued. “We must not only provide the resources for them to do their jobs, but also target those resources to local governments in a cost-effective way. I am especially proud that California’s unique emergency management system serves as a model for the rest of the country.”
