Dreier Applauds Another Year of Strong Job Growth
January 6, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, applauded today’s news from the Department of Labor that the U.S. economy added 108,000 jobs in December, and 71,000 more jobs than originally announced in October and November. These increases mean over 2 million jobs were created in 2005, according to the payroll survey. Dreier pointed to the household survey’s account of over 2.6 million jobs created last year as even more proof of a fundamentally strong, dynamic economy.
"Today’s announcement confirms what we’ve known for some time - this economy is fundamentally strong and getting stronger. The payroll numbers are outstanding, and the household survey numbers are even better. A close examination of these numbers tells us that this growth was led by high-skill, high wage sectors such as business and professional services, as well as manufacturing. While the high numbers are good news, the quality of jobs created is an even greater success story.
"This good economic news can easily be traced back to May 2003, when investment-oriented tax relief was signed into law. Since then, 479,600 jobs have been added in my home state of California. Our agenda for 2006 should be clear - keep in place the tax relief that got this economy rolling again, and build on its success."
