1/26/08: Connecticut Post - Editorial - Dodd Standing by Fight for Liberties

January 26, 2008

Sen. Christopher J. Dodd says he's not interested in running for majority leader in the U.S. Senate. Given the performance by the position's current occupant, maybe Dodd will reconsider.

During Dodd's ill-fated run for the presidency, his support for civil liberties and the rule of law against an out-of-control White House and its corporate backers was viewed by critics as a cynical attempt to rile partisans to his candidacy. Well, he's not running for president anymore, but Dodd has not given up on this fight. He is not going to allow this rampant lawbreaking to continue without a fight.

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today commented on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) regarding the proposed Broadwater Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Storage and Regasification Facility in Long Island Sound.

“I am very concerned about the final environmental report on the Broadwater project released today by the FERC.  It minimizes the potential dangers to the health of Long Island Sound’s fragile ecosystem and does not adequately prove that suggested mitigation measures will be enough to protect the Sound. While I understand the need for increased energy resources in our region, I believe Broadwater is too dangerous and disruptive to the environment and remain opposed to the project.”
