CPSC Conferees Reach Agreement on Final Items
Washington, D.C. – Senator Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii), Representative John Dingell (D-Mich.), Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), and Representative Joe Barton (R-Texas) announce that the Conference Committee for H.R. 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, has reached agreement on the remaining outstanding items, pending final adoption of the complete conference report. The agreement reached today includes the following items:
1. Third Party Testing, Inspection of Proprietary Labs
2. Mandatory Toy Standards
3. Reauthorization Years and Authorization of Appropriations
4. Notification of Noncompliance
5. Prohibited Acts
6. Criminal Penalties
7. Whistleblower Protections
8. ATV Safety Standards
9. Phthalates Ban
10. Formaldehyde Study
