Key Lawmakers Seek Probe into Effectiveness of the Individual Market for Health Insurance
Chairmen Call for GAO Report
Washington, DC- Reps. John D. Dingell (D-MI), Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, Henry A. Waxman (D-CA), Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, today requested a Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation into the individual market for health insurance coverage.
In a letter sent today to David M. Walker, GAO Comptroller General, the Congressmen requested that GAO specifically examine the effectiveness of state high-risk pools in meeting the needs of high-risk individuals who are unable to obtain or afford adequate coverage in the individual market, the uses of the Federal grant money, and its effect on the individual market.
