GPO is developing a strategic plan for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) that looks forward 10-15 years. There were initial discussions at the Spring 2008 meeting of the Depository Library Council in Kansas City. At that meeting we discussed the vision, mission, and assumptions.  We also began a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis of the FDLP.  GPO continues to seek input for the strategic planning process through this Web page.

For those who were unable to attend the meeting in Kansas City, or for those who want a refresher of the session, there are links on this page to the presentation and the discussion. Also included is a link to a strategic planning presentation from this summer’s Interagency Depository Seminar.

GPO Seeks Your Input

GPO is very interested in your comments and thoughts about the future direction of the FDLP.  Help shape our future by providing comments on the vision, mission, and assumptions. GPO welcomes any other comments you wish to make on the future direction of the FDLP. Some questions to consider:

• What do you think are the internal strengths and weaknesses of the FDLP?
• What do you think are the external opportunities and threats to the FDLP?
• What is your view of the FDLP in 2020? What will the Program look like? What will GPO be doing to support depository libraries?
• What are the various ways your library derives value from the FDLP?
• How do your users benefit by using depository resources? Do you have success stories to share or anecdotes?
• What are ways GPO can improve the value of the FDLP?
• How can GPO assist in improving the value of the depository to you, your library and community?

The Strategic Plan

GPO will review all the submissions and will prepare a draft strategic plan for discussion at the Fall meeting of the Depository Library Council (October 20-22, 2008).
