GAO Issues New Report on Record Iraqi Oil Profits

By the end of this year, Iraq may have accumulated nearly $80 billion in windfall oil profits, according to a report by GAO today. While U.S. taxpayers have spent $48 billion on Iraq reconstruction efforts to date, GAO finds that Iraq has spent only 1% of total expenditures to maintain roads, bridges, vehicles, buildings, water and electricity installations, and weapons for security forces.
