Letter from the Managing Director of Customer Services

Dear Prospective Bidder:

Thank you for your interest in the Government Printing Office (GPO). For more than a century the GPO has supplied printing and binding services to Congress and agencies of the Federal Government. Most of the agency work is now purchased from commercial printers.

GPO is committed to providing all qualified potential contractors with an equal opportunity to take part in its competitive bidding process. There are advantages to the taxpayer, the Government, and to the industry by increasing the number of contractors participating in the bid process. I invite your participation and hope you will be doing business with the GPO in the future.

Enclosed in this kit you will find a Solicitation Mailing List Application and information on GPO's operations and procedures. Complete the application and have it signed by an officer listed on page 1, section 5. Return two copies to the U.S. Government Printing Office, Printing Procurement Department, Stop: PPSB, Washington, DC 20401. Please submit with your application several recent production samples of your work for quality level evaluation. You must notify GPO of any changes in your facilities and personnel authorized to sign bids. These changes must be made in writing and signed by an officer of the firm.

Your firm will be listed at the Central Office and at the GPO Regional Office for your area. Addresses of Regional Procurement Offices may be found in the enclosed booklet, "How To Do Business With The GPO." Invitations for bid (IFB) commensurate with your capabilities will be offered to you in accordance with GPO's bidder rotation procedures. Copies of IFB's may be obtained by reviewing specifications posted in the Central and Regional Procurement Offices. Each office maintains an up-to-date listing of pending procurements, and I encourage you to visit these offices, inspect the available specifications, and submit bids on those you are interested in producing. Bid results will be furnished for each quotation you submit if you enclose a self-addressed, stamped postal card with your bid.
Again, I appreciate your interest in the GPO and encourage your participation in its nationwide procurement program.

Sincerely,

Davita E. Vance-Cooks
Acting Managing Director
