Deadline to Request Inaugural Tickets Quickly Approaching, Lottery Will be Used to Distribute

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowans have until December 1 to submit their name for tickets to his office for the Inauguration of the new president.  It’s expected that each member of the Iowa congressional delegation will distribute their tickets through a lottery.

“Inaugurations are celebrations that not only demonstrate the peaceful transfer of power that our Constitution dictates, but also the great power of individual Americans’ rights and responsibilities of citizenship,” Grassley said.  “There have been a tremendous number of requests to see Barack Obama take the oath of office on this historic day.  I look forward to seeing the many Iowans in Washington who will be on hand to witness the swearing in of our 44th president.”

Grassley’s tickets will be distributed through a lottery.  Once one of the Iowa congressional offices draws names, the list of those receiving tickets will be shared with the other offices to ensure that the tickets are spread out among as many interested Iowans as possible.

Iowans who want to submit their name for tickets should call Grassley’s Washington, D.C. office at 202/224-3744.
