WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Candice Miller, MI-10, today released the following statement in response to the announcement by Senators Levin and Stabenow:
"The Michigan congressional delegation has been working in a strong bi-partisan fashion to deliver needed assistance to our domestic auto manufacturers. Our goal all along has been to provide the companies with needed capital to help them through these difficult economic times and protect jobs. I applaud Senators Levin and Stabenow for their hard work to forge a bi-partisan compromise that can pass the U.S. Senate and the entire Congress that will provide that support.
Today the Senators announced such a compromise agreement. It is my sincere belief that the Bush administration already has the authority under the recently passed economic stabilization plan to provide the support that the industry needs. If the administration continues to refuse to act then the Congress must act to ensure the industry gets the support they need. Leaders in Congress must not put up unnecessary obstructions that will prevent the passage of this important legislation before the 110th Congress adjourns."
