Regional Challenge Goals

Some EPA Regions have established challenge goals for their Performance Track facilities. A facility that makes a challenge goal can choose to make only two additional goals, rather than three. However, a small facility that makes a challenge goal would still have to make one additional goal. For more details, please read EPA’s Challenge Goal Policy for the National Environmental Performance Track Program (PDF, 39 KB, 3 pp.). To find out what is available in your region, click here.

EPA Launches National Challenge Goals

In addition to Regional Challenge Goals, EPA now offers five National Challenge Goals. National Challenge Goals are available to all Performance Track members and applicants. Like the Regional Challenge Goals, National Challenge Goals count as two goals. (Small facilities still need to make two goals.) Performance Track partnered with EPA's Office of Water to offer challenge goals in water use reduction and reduction in discharges to impaired waters, with the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response to create a challenge goal in Priority Chemicals reduction, and with EPA's Office of Air and Radiation to launch a challenge goal in energy use reduction. Performance Track partnered with the Wildlife Habitat Council and other organizations to develop a national habitat challenge goal.
