Analytical Methods

EPA publishes laboratory analytical methods that are used by industries and municipalities to analyze the chemical and biological components of wastewater, drinking water, sediment, and other environmental samples that are required by EPA regulations under the authority of the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act. Almost all of these methods are published by EPA as regulations at Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

Pretreatment program requirements for sampling and analysis are described at 40 CFR 403.12 Exit EPA Site and 40 CFR 136 Exit EPA Site.

More information on these methods can be found at: http://www.epa.gov/ost/methods
