NSTL Partners with AgCert International, LLC
Dr. Jerry L. Hatfield is partnering with AgCert International on a research program entitled “Development of Greenhouse Gas Algorithms for Agricultural Systems.” This program is designed to develop procedures to estimate the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG’s), methane and nitrous oxide, release from livestock production and manure storage and application systems. Production systems are being compared for their emission of these gases and the procedures to estimate the emission rate can be applied to compare systems that will reduce the emission rate. The Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) focuses on the development and evaluation of these procedures and the comparison among production systems that can then be used to determine management alternatives to reduce methane and nitrous oxide emissions. The goal of this CRADA is to develop procedures for the producers to be able to use to determine it carbon credits can be derived from management changes in their livestock enterprise.
The primary objective of this Agreement is to develop, evaluate, quantify and devise agricultural production methods and practices that minimize the release of CO2 GHG and/or GHG equivalents into the environment. A secondary objective of this Agreement is to develop, evaluate, quantify and devise agricultural production methods and practices that enhance and improve water quality while minimizing the release of CO2 GHG and/or GHG equivalents into the environment. A tertiary objective is to develop, evaluate, quantify, and devise agriculture production methods and practices that result in the generation of renewable power on a farm, especially if they result from practices aimed at reducing overall farm GHG emissions.
