Superfund Redevelopment in Region 5 helps local communities return contaminated Superfund sites to safe and productive uses. EPA is working with these communities and other stakeholders - prospective purchasers, local governments - to consider reuse opportunities and to integrate appropriate reuse options into the cleanup process. Superfund Redevelopment in the News

Ingram-Richardson Superfund Site
On September 12, 2007, the Ingram-Richardson site in Frankfort, Indiana was determined to be ready for commercial/industrial use. EPA issued a Ready for Reuse (RfR) determination for the site that has clarified this future reuse type. An RfR determination is an environmental status report that provides specific information about a site, including the nature and extent of contamination and the status of the property with respect to federal and state requirements. The RfR determination is expected to help Clinton County officials pursue reuse activities at this 17-acre site.

Region 5 has developed a number of fact sheets about Superfund sites in the Region. These fact sheets describe when and how a site is (or will be) ready for reuse. The fact sheets detail reuse activities at the site, the site's planning and development process, geographic location, past cleanup activities, and contacts for more information. Brooklyn Center, Minnesota
Before: A 30-acre wood pole and tie treating facility that operated for 60 years at the Joslyn Manufacturing and Supply Co. site (PDF) (2 pp, 347K, About PDF).	After: The site has been transformed into France Avenue Business Park, which is now home to the Wickes Furniture distribution center, office and warehouse buildings, and the Caribou Coffee Company Headquarters.
