The term seismic seiche was first coined by Anders Kvale in 1955, to describe oscillation of lake levels in Norway and England caused by the Assam earthquake of August, 1950.

Epicenter
6.1 Twenty-three people killed, 200 injured, and a five-story building collapsed at Chittagong, Bangladesh. Houses damaged and old trees uprooted at Alikadam, Bandarban, Lama and Nakhyaungcharipara. Felt in much of Bangladesh as far north as Rangpur and Rajshahi.
