1979	Panama-Costa Rica border region	6.7	The earthquake was centered near Puerto Armuelles, Panama. The Puerto Armuelles Secondary School reportedly sustained considerable damage, and there was some other minor damage in the area. An estimated $2 million damage was reported to have occurred to petroleum loading facilities in the Puerto Armuelles area. The quake was also felt strongly in southeastern Costa Rica. There were no reports of casualties. A number of moderately strong aftershocks followed, but no additional damage was reported.
