Research Interests

  • Modifying crop composition for improved human health.
  • Molecular genetic and genomic analysis of wheat disease resistance.
  • Brachypodium distachyon, a new model system for grass genomics research.
  • Molecular biology of abiotic stress tolerance, including acid soils tolerance and nutrient deficiency responses.

Current or Planned Experiments

  • Wheat gene expression associated with disease resistance.
  • Quantify Fusarium head blight resistance QTL effects individually and in pyramided combinations.
  • Identify and characterize novel sources of Fusarium head blight resistance.
  • Coordinate U.S. hard red spring wheat uniform performance and Fusarium head blight nursery programs.
  • Molecular genetic analysis and whole genome sequencing of Brachypodium distachyon.

Laboratory Personnel
