Partnerships - A Way Of Doing Business

Many of today's environmental problems, such as air and water pollution, habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, climate change, and urbanization occur at local, regional, and national scales, transcending political and administrative boundaries, and necessitating cooperative and coordinated efforts to address their causes.

For years the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been entering into partnership agreements with a wide range of individuals and organizations at the national, regional and local levels as a means to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our programs. These partnership agreements encourage cooperative projects that benefit local areas, the National Wildlife Refuge System, and resources we share a common commitment for.

Partnerships allow us to take advantage of the wealth of experience and expertise of organizations and individuals in a cooperative way. Examples of partnership efforts we have entered into in the past are conservation communications, training, land acquisition, youth hunter education courses, scholarships for students interested in natural resources, conferences, habitat restoration projects on private land, and youth activities.

Because of personnel and funding constraints, public agencies increasingly rely on cooperating organizations to help in the successful execution of projects that would not otherwise be possible. The Service views these cooperative agreements as one that complements other formal volunteer programs. For information on partnership opportunities, visit these sites:
